I just took off my starboard side drive shaft and noticed that the carbon ring that was installed has a inner lip(the part that slides inside the rubber boot) which is about half the length of the new OEM one I purchased... Will this cause severe cavitation??

The part of the carbon ring that is exposed after everything is installed, is the same size as the new OEM one I have...just wondering if the difference in size is the cause of my unfixable cavitation....

The old carbon ring looks fine and basically new otherwise.

Thanks!

Surprised there isn't even one response on this considering its about carbon rings...anyway, I noticed the metal ring is sliding past the rubber o-ring moving towards the engine....creating a gap where the carbon ring is supposed to seal. So I am installing a c-clip... although I can't seem to find anywhere what size is recommended. If anyone knows please post. Is the c-clip supposed to hold the metal ring by resting flush against it or by riding just inside the orifice of the metal ring? I am going to assume flush against the outside lip...

I would suspect that the new OEM ring supersedes the old one, you can check and see if the original part no. is the same as the new one. BRP does this all the time. I suspect the reason for the change is the carbon seal is less likely to break with the shorter shoulder.
