My 1997 SeaDoo gtx will randomly Turn off after 10 minutes of riding. When I turn it on it will only last for a couple minutes then shut off again. And it will eventually won’t start anymore.
Next time it happens, open the gas cap and see if it clears. If so, your fuel vent is not functioning properly allowing fuel consumption to create a vacuum in the tank
Check your connections starting at the battery, It could also be a dying dess post,,,do some resistance tests on it and the lanyard as well...they can play intermittent tricks on you,,,happened to me on my 96 XP,,,that dess post just has a very small glass reed switch in it,,,5 volts or so to the mpem.
I just solved this same issue on my 96 xp today. Does the ski beep or gauges light up when you put the lanyard on. If no, without the lanyard on, press start/stop button. Gauges should light up. If they do not light up this means the MPEM is not waking up due to either 1) no power getting to it or 2) not making proper ground contact.
Start by checking the two fuses in the black box near battery. If those are good trace the red/purple(possibly different color) wire into the grey box with MPEM as this is the power supply. If all looks good up to the grey box, open it up and check all the fuses in there. If all checks out good, start doing the wiggle test. Wiggle power and ground wires for the MPEM and DCI with the lanyard ON the post. If you hear the relay inside the grey box click inspect wires closely. I had a wire that had barely rubbed through the insulation and had 2-3 broken wires causing MPEM to receive less than adequate voltage to power up. Hope this helps
