1997 Seadoo Challenger Single engine

It is the single 787 engine in it. This is my first seadoo project. I got the boat on a trade for a dirt bike. I'm getting new upholstry on it right now. The boat does not run and has not for 2 yrs is what they said. The head and front piston (closest to seats) are scared a little. Would it be better to rebuild the engine or get one from SBT? I dont want to spend a whole lot in this project, already spent around $400 on the seats. I'm looking for some opinions on what to do.

you should have come to this sight sooner. i sugest looking on this sight or other sights first befor buying a new motor but im also saying thats not a bad idea tho. on the seets i would have gone to a near fabrick stor and bought some duck cloth (the stuff thay make dickies out of) and did it all my self but thats me. listen if you can take some pics of the motor and boat id like to see it maby some real good pics of the scard motor that way i can make better judgement on what to do. ill be willing to help any kind of way i can.

I added a couple of pictures of the seats and motor. You cant really see where the head is scared. I'm thinking of adding a CD player too, but I'm not sure if i should add it under the the steering or through the fiberglass like one guy has done his on here.

Put the motor back together unless you already have a compression test wet/dry, this is what determines the action needed to make the motor run, I would wait for music until after you hear the motor purring on the water, drowning out the lean failure sounds will be a large disappointment as you get towed to shore.

with cylinders off, inspect the rod and bearings alongwith the "shims" on each side of the rod. Make sure all isthere and look good. Roll the crank around to feel "smoothness", and if all feels exceptable, then do a topend only...
