1997 Sea Doo Speedster Top End Oil Problem

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on here so bear with me if I'm too vague on explaining everything.

I have a 97 Sea Doo Speedster that someone is giving me to use if I can get it up and running. It had been sitting up for about 2 yrs with no use. I got the starboard engine running and it's running good. The port engine however has a bit of a problem. I took the plugs out of the engine and gave the start button a push just to let the motor try to turn. The engine sprayed oil all over the place. I looked down into the engine and one side is full of oil. I turned it a few more times with rags over the top hoping it would just clean out the excess oil but something keeps filling the top end of the pistons with oil. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and what it might take to fix it? The engine is in great condition in all other aspects. I would appreciate any input that anyone can give me.

Thanks,
Jason :)

Does anyone know someone on this forum that I maybe could ask about this problem directly? The Sea Doo service center here where I live doesn't service a boat this old if you can believe that.

sounds like the crank seals are gone that are for oiling the rotary shaft. To fix you need to pull engine remove crank and have the seals replaced.
If you just want to use the boat, on the oil reservoir put a mark at the oil level, ground the plugs for the engine with oil in it, and crank it over like you were doing to get as much oil out as possible. Once oil has slowed comming out the cylinder, try and start it. It will smoke but eventually clear up. Then look at the oil level and if it has dropped in level noticably might not be able to run, but if it sits overnight and has not dropped you may get some summer fun out of the machine.

Thanks for the info Salmon.....Anyone else have any thoughts or inputs as to what could be causing the engine to do this? I was wondering if it was maybe the check valves on the oil pump being stuck open or something going on with the oil pump?
