Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a 1997 SEA DOO GTI with a rotax 717 engine.
The seller has it listed a a good price for 1,300 with trailer included.

Seller states it ran fine last and just needs regular maintenance. It has been in storage for 2 years. It doesn't sound very winterized as they state they've always taken the battery out and keep it in a barn. Just out of curiosity is there any warning signs I should look for upon viewing this?

I am just kind of wanting to get an idea of what common issues are these units and what kind of hole I may be digging before purchasing this.
Based on some of my research it looks like you can rebuild the pump and carbeautor pretty cheap, so I would assume should the engine not be shot this would be a good purchase?

Thanks for any insight :)

You have to check compression. 150psi is perfect 120 it’s done.

Does it crank over? Does it have spark? What condition it the impeller and ski in?

A ski that doesn’t run isn’t worth more than $500 because you don’t know if it’s a $100 fix or a $1500 fix.

Good point, I'll be sure to run a compression test when go to look at it.
Spark plugs should be right at the top. pretty easy access right?

Yes. Make sure you bring a strong battery. No jumping or booster packs. Fuel off, throttle wide open and plug caps on their ground lugs.

FWIW, I picked my 95XP up in perfect condition with a nice double trailer up for $1200. There are deals out there, so you don’t have to jump on the first one you see. If it looks like it’s going to be more work than you’re up for, don’t be afraid to pass on it. On the other hand, these can be fun little projects, and if you’re handy with a wrench you can restore one relatively inexpensively.
