I have a 1997 GTX that was a gift to me and my wife for easter. When I first got it the fuel gauge and speedometer wouldnt work. I replaced the float and the speed wheel. So i got that fixed. Then I noticed it kept saying 12 volt low and the hours wouldnt keep on it. So i ordered the box that goes in the front thinking it would fix it. It did for a while. Cavitation was a problem so i installed a new solas impeller and wear ring. After this it was all good until I got a leak. The drive shaft seal went out and I installed a new shaft and seal. All was good for a week until the motor cut off going down the lake. come to find out the needle bearings on the rod came out. went by the piston and ate the cylinder and head up. SO... I had the engine rebuild from top to bottom with new pistons, boreing, new rids, crank, gaskets, seals, bearings, pretty much anything that could be replaced i did because I was just getting tired of all the crap going wrong. This is about 3 weeks after the rebuild. As i went to start it up saturday the started would buzz but not turn. So being the farm boy I am i used my grandpaws old trick and tapped the starter. fired right up. I guess that trick only works once. I backed it to the water sunday and it wouldnt even turn the motor. Just the solinoid clicks. Battery at full charge and all connections tight. The question I have before I go and blow a couple hundred on a starter. Does it sound like this is the problem? Or is it the solinoid? I swaer it seems like i bought James Dean's seadoo here but I want to get an honest opinion. I think after i replace this I will basically have a new seadoo minus the hull LOL. I would like to figure out the hour meter problem too where it doesnt keep any hours. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Thank you all.

it will turn. The starter just clicks. If i beat the crap out of it it tries to turn the motor. Its like its stuck. It ran fine the day before.

Well, there you go...

EDIT: I have 2 of those starters and a 720 starter. PM if interested...

I know i seem a little on the slow side. Bubt hey im a noob to pwc. I just wanted a second opinion (which i thank you very much) on the deal since it seems i have worked on it more this summer than rode lol. Any idea on the hour meter?

it sound like a starter or a battery problem like the starter isn't getting enough power to spin the motor i would have your battery tested it could just be the battery has a dead cell or the start my just be going out a way to test is remove the start hook it up the a battery charge with 12 volts 2 amps and it should spin freely if not its probably shot.

I just replaced the battery at the start of summer. It says the batter is charged when hooked to the charger. I also used another battery out of a running seadoo.

ok well with that said check out the wonderful world of ebay and look for part 278 001 038 but try to pull the old starter out and do the battery tester test.

anyone think it could be something as simple as the plugs not getting a good connection with the plug boot? one time my challenger would not start so i took of the plug boots and put them back on and it started right up
