Hey guys I just picked up a 1997 GTX all original with 220 hours. Honestly its in good condition. it had a cracked manifold where water leaked so I got that welded up and it needed a battery. I put some new fuel in it and got it running. I cleaned rave valves, and checked the compression (150 on each cylinder). I can get a top speed of 53mph and 6600rpms out of it at WOT on smooth water. It idles great, but there is some random hesitation sometimes when accelerating from a dead dig to WOT...only some times. 100% of the time if you drive it easy and keep the RPMs in the 3700-4400RPM range it stumbles and falls on its face...I thought rave valves but they are now clean.

-It does have the Tempo fuel lines..was thinking I should replace and clean carbs..
-It probably has some residual old fuel in it
-Fuel gauge doesn't work, or buzzer

I was wondering if its a lean condition but I dont think it is..I pulled the primer/choke slightly out while in that range to see if it helped it pull out of the hesitation and it made it worse.

If the tempo lines are bad wouldn't it not idle or run bad at WOT and not hit 6600rpms? What do you guys think it could be? I dont want to throw money or time at this if its not needed and this is just normal hesitation for that mid range RPM on the 787 motor.

Quick answer, The gray fuel lines need to go. Then yes clean carbs. Do not worry about this being a waste of time. It will not be.

The fuel gauge and buzzer both are easy fixes. Depends on you, if they are worth spending the time and hardly any money on.

Just to add to the conversation...I have the same issue going on where the it hesitates around 2000 to 3000 rpm. I had changed out the fuel lines, cleaned out the tank but I took the cheap route on the two important tips that are brought up on the forum. I just cleaned out the carbs and reused the innards also I just cleaned out the fuel selector. The hesitation is when I slowly accelerated through the rpms. If I go quickly through it no hesitation.

I was trying to save some cash and and keep my wife happy.

In not trying to hijack the conversation just point you in the right direction.
