Well this is her, owned previously by two people. I bought her last fall for 1000$. Rebuilt engine with less than 30 hrs on the engine. I sent out the carbs over the winter to be professionally cleaned and rebuilt. I replaced intake grate. I’m new to the 951 and jet ski’s in general. I would love to know all there is to know about this ski and engine. Regular maintenance, what to watch out for, how to make this thing last and run smooth, and especially what battery/size to put into it. I’m thinking about using the mystic two stroke low ash full synthetic oil to save some $. Any and all comments are helpful

Thanks, cam

Well, that's a strange one because the hull should be silver and red not white and red.
The 1997.5 GSX also had the white engine and yours is silver and has been apart before.

One thing that will make it last longer is getting the stock air cleaner on it as the 951 will not tolerate any water ingestion and the aftermarket air cleaner you have will suck it in if you are not careful or have a novice rider on it.

You also have to make sure that it is jetted correctly for the air cleaner you decide to run.

Yes, the Mystic full synthetic is good oil but you can't mix brands so you need to drain and flush to oil system and replace the oil filter when changing brands.

Great looking GSX! I have had good luck with AGM battery's from Autozone but others have not. But if I know I'm not going to ride my Doo's within a few days I unhook the negative battery cable. All of mine seem to have some battery drain if they sit unused for a few weeks.

Well crap I wish I would have known that! I spent $100 for a new autozone battery last week for the XP800
Sorry, The Yuasa are basically the best you can get and is why all OEM use them. Plus the sealed have 310 CCA and I get about 5 years out of them on a Battery Tender.

Good to know! I think my wife's GTX will need a new battery this season, it's a 4 year old autozone and seemed like it was on it's last leg when I winterized last fall. Will have to get one of those!

Here’s some more pics of when first got the ski last fall. I replaced the fuel lines as well. The engine photo should show the 97 badge clearer. I’m guessing when it was rebuilt it was painted silver. Though not 100% on that. You say I should drain out the oil and flush the system, How does one go about that?
thank you all for the info

Contact Westside Powersports Seadoo for a clean OEM air box. They will have everything else you could possibly need.

I would drain the oil tank, and lines, replace the rubber tank grommets and oil filter and put in new oil.

Has it been painted? The top deck should be silver not white.

Mac, I don't have any oil hooked up or even a tank. the previous owner pre mixed.
Well in that case there is no oil system to maintain.
You do have a balancer shaft that has oil that should be changed every few seasons.

Did you rebuild the carbs when you replaced the fuel lines? And replace the fuel selector?

I did rebuild the carb, and replaced the fuel selector, and I also replaced the jet pump oil. I just bought new jets. Low 85, high 165, and 2.3 needle seater. How can I prevent water being sucked in through the exhaust?

Sorry maybe I read one of the other threads wrong, I thought there was something about the exhaust leaking in water

Yes, that's the diaper but you only need the rubber part and don't have to take the pipe apart to install it.

The issue is that if and when the pipe leaks it will spray water directly into the carbs and then the internal engine. This was the cause of so many warranty repairs that seadoo came up with the "diaper".

Ah I see, that does seem a little problematic... well thank you very much for your help miki. Your insight has helped greatly. I will update you soon on my progress

This is funny. I have 2 97 GSX. they look exactly the same but one has a silver meter and one a white motor. The hulls are both white and red. Wonder what o have here. Bought them both for 200 with trailer. It's a project to come soon....

So the 1997 GSX is red bottom and white top and a 787 engine. Then Seadoo came out with the 1997.5 GSX limited with red bottom and silver top with a white 951 that had some issues known as the Gray Ghost. Then in 1998 they fixed the issues in the sliver 951 and it was red and purple.

I’ve had a broken throttle pin since I’ve acquired the ski and instead of buy a pack of 3 for 20 bucks not including shipping. I’ve made my own from a 3D printer using ABS plastic 9F61ECD8-022D-4EC3-A5D2-E11CBAA34E19.jpeg6FA65057-17D7-464F-8B5D-4CC1D47DE00E.jpeg

measured the dimensions myself and guessed the rest. Fits perfectly no wobble.
