Hi guys, i got a 1997 seadoo GSI with the 717cc motor and about a week now he don't want to crank , start etc.. A couple a week he was just running fine.

Now the 12v low voltage appear on the dash , i can't crank it when pressing the red button ( but if i bypass it with a jumper he does crank but no start ) . The info center is just going well . Also sometimes when i put the key on it the beep work and sometimes not. I just don't want to change the DESS , MPEM and all those stuff.

Can it be the voltage regulator ? or simply just the Solenoid ? Need help … And no i don't have any blown fuse.

I spoke with some dealer and they told me about MPEM issue. but i'm pretty sure they are wrong.

Saturday morning when i try to work on it the beep was not working when i put the key on it. After the diner i retry it and he did the two beep ( like he should ) but still not cranking.

later in the same day the beep was not working again. So maybe its just my buzzer who dosen't work well anymore

That just sends power to the starter. It won’t run like that. You either need a solenoid or a dess post I believe. Clean the dess post thoroughly with soap and water. It’s probably the solenoid. Also clean all plugs and connectors and use dialectic grease on them. Also check your ground wires.

My beepers is working again, i change my solenoid for a new ( used one ) . And it work for a day only. Now i got again the same problem ... no crank but i got the beep , a dealer told me to replace the voltage recrifier but i dont how this pieces can affect the ignition ?

Happened to me. Manual says in order:

1. Bad key.
2. Bad DESS post
3. Bad MPEM

In my case, problem was the DESS post (since I had two keys, I knew it wasn't the key). Cost me $130 plus a few hours of work disassembling the handle. Did you hear a very long beep when trying to crank at some point?

I think i heard it once but not sure. I try today and when i put my key on it i got the 2 beep , but still no crank, the push button is working , my solenoid have some 12 volts , the ground of the solenoid is now on my battery so i’m sure like that he is good.

I know like i said that my coil as some rust on it but i don’t see how a bad coil can do that the motor don’t crank...

Do you have two keys? If so, try the second key. If battery is OK and solenoid good (no click click), I would change the DESS post. Sea Doo dealers can have that for you.

I am really not a mechanics but I was able to change the post by myself :) :) :)

Fixed the issue!

Mine was getting worse and worse over a couple days. I figured the ski would not be starting soon anymore so really, this is the easiest part to change if you already tried two keys, checked the battery and bypassed the solenoid.

Someone else may answer the solenoid question. Mine was click clicking a few years back when it happened (different issue).

I by-pass it already and the motor crank when i do that. The stuff that kill me is that there is no dealer who have some pieces , they all have to order it.

I got my part in two days from a BRP dealer. Also easily available on ebay. No need to reprogram the key.

Someone else may answer the solenoid question. Mine was click clicking a few years back when it happened (different issue) but your issue sounds really like mine. I would start with that. This is the only way to know if the problem is the DESS post or the MPEM (or the key for that matter unless you have a new one programmed)..

In my case, ski would stop cold in the water like if I had pulled the key. When I would reconnect it, either I had no sound or the two beeps. If I had the two beeps, then I would hear a long beep when trying to start it. And the issue kept going worse and worse over a few days until the ski was unusable anymore. I bought a new one actually...

I had the two beeps but the key was not being recognized anymore (like if you inserted the key from another ski in) hence the long beep. Or else, I would hear nothing at all and by playing with it I would get the two beeps. Maximum Powersports in Hawkesbury got it for me in two days. I also saw plenty on Ebay. Check your parts manual on seadoomanuals.net.

To be honest , if i buy a new one its not gonna be a BRP , to much trouble with this compagny, i will go with a yamaha. But i dont want to buy a new one , this sea doo is like a third toy for me .

I heard that one also but you can't compare a 1997 with a 2018... I bought peace of mine and now I can play with my 2003 knowing that if it breaks I have something else to rely one. Lac-Simon is a big lake and stalling in the middle of it at 8:00 PM is not funny. Happened to me a few times with my 2003.

On Lac-Simon, Yamaha are outnumbered by 10 to one. Plenty of dealers around.
