1997 Challenger MPEM

Hello ... wondering if anyone can help.. I have a 1997 challenger that has worked great for years... unfortunately this year after sitting in storage, the battery was low so I decided to use my portable battery booster to start the boat (now I know that was a Big mistake)... it started well, but before I could disconnect the battery booster the engine cut off... then nothing.. no solenoid click.. after a bit of research, I am quite certain that I blew the diode in the MPEM.. searching for a replacement MPEM has been eye-opening... hard to believe that SEADOO designers would be so stupid to design a part that could not be repaired or replaced... never the less... I have managed to source a replacement MPEM from a 1996 seadoo speedster with twin 720 engines.. my challenger is a single engine 787... can anyone tell me if the 1996 speedster MPEM would work? hoping that someone from this community can comment and/or offer some advice... thank you in advance... I just sold a Speedster MPEM a couple months ago. Did you check your fuses? It could be the rectifier or a loss of ground. I'd replace the rectifier first as they are pretty cheap. Finding an MPEM would be easier for a single engine boat that the twin. You can try OSDmarine. I believe they were making aftermarket MPEMs for the Speedster so the Single engine model would be a much easier application. Again, I recommend testing everything before spending the money on an MPEM. Good Luck!

rectifier has nothing to do with the starter selenoid not sending voltage to the starter.....

I do agree with checking your fuses first. You have fuses in the MPEM box, and the rear electrical box.
 
Hi, thank you for the comments.. yes, first thing I checked is the 5 amp fuse in the fuse box... and yes it was blown, and yes, when I replaced it and tried to start the engine again it blew again... my understanding is that means that there is a blown diode in the MPEM... problem is that to find the diode, one would have to know where it is on the circuit board (that is completely covered in epoxy).... I would be willing to dig out the diode and replace it, but I would have to know where on the epoxy covered circuit board the diode is located... only other option is to get some sort of solvent and guess where the diode should be... regards...

yes, thank you... I did see a very good one from Jonathan McClure on youtube, but unfortunately it's not the Challenger MPEM, so there is no way to find out where the diode is located on the main circuit board... thanks anyway for the comment
