1997 Challenger 1800 wire question

I just bought a Challenger 1800 and the port side engine engine had been replaced last year. I was looking around under the hood and found a loose wire hanging in the rear of the boat with a small plug and I have no idea what it's supposed to plug into. It comes out of the same loom as the wire that goes to the bilge pump and it has the same kind of plug at the end which is just a two wire oval shaped plug. The two wires on the plug are white with a brown or tan stripe. I traced it up and it follows the bilge wire into the same wiring harnass and goes all the way up to the area behind the steering wheel where all the guages and switches are. It goes into a fuse block board where there is a large wire plug with about twenty wires coming from it. I plan on buying a wiring diagram soon but thought I'd see if anyone knew where it goes just from this description. Thanks.

I was looking at the wiring diagram for my 98 challenger and 2 wires both white w brown go to the water sensor.

Thanks for the help. Do you happen to know where the sensor is located? I didn't know if each engine has one or not. I can't see it. It would make sense though because it's near the motor that was replaced so i wonder if the mechanic forgot it.

water level sensor, for the bilge pump. Comes on automatically, when waters' detected. Sounds like the sensor went bad and/or the pumps been replaced, and sensor not hooked up again.

Ahh, Ok, I was wondering if this was supposed to have an automatic bilge pump. I did pull the bilge pump and looked at it and didn't see any other wires coming out of it. If it is the original pump, is the sensor supposed to be on the pump or somewhere on the boat? Thanks.

rite next to it/mounted to it. A little "flapper" looking thing, that will raise up, when water is present, and high enough raised, will set off the bilge.
