1997 challenger 1800 start failure

Ok I just got a 1997 Seadoo challenger 1800 with twin xp 800 engines passenger motor figured out the timing is off no biggie BUT!!!!!! the driver motor is the problem hard to turn over changed the started ground wire hot wire now here the messed up part if I pull the plugs out it spins good but a brown liquid pores out no gas lines hooked up if I put the number 2 plug in it spins over but not like it should now take 2 out and put 1 in it does not move will not spinn over like locked up oh also changed batteries and hooked dual batterys in now back to 1 cause no change please advise seedoo god

OK... If the boat has been sitting for a long time... it is sometimes normal to have oil pour into the engine from the rotary valve. When the center seals are warn... the oil will leak in.

So... make sure your battery is fully charged, and crank it with the spark plugs out, until it has passed most of that oil. (only crank in 10 second bursts so you don't overheat your starter)

Once the oil has purged, it should crank... but... it will probably make your spark plugs wet. I don't normally recommend starter fluid... but you will need it to get it to fire up. Once it's started... it will puke an oily mess out the exhaust, and after a couple minutes of running... it will be fine. (make sure you have water going to the engine so it doesn't overheat) You may have to remove the spark plugs, and clean them a couple times before it will run without fouling.


If the seals aren't too bad... it shouldn't be a problem again, unless it sits for a long time. If it happens again quickly... you will need the check the rotary valve seals, or have your crank shaft rebuilt.
