I went out for a nice ride on my 1996 SPX the other day and had a great ride around the lake. I took the ski into some shallow water with some weeds for about 10 mins just putting around checking out the part of the lake that i cant with my boat. I came out of the weeds and got up on plane no problem. I hit a wake and when the pump grabbed the water it made a bang noise and then the engine reved and the ski slowed down. I stopped dead in the water and the motor was still running. I reved the engine and the ski went no where. I checked the impeller for weeds in the water and it only ad a few small pieces.

The ski is at home on the trailer now. What do you guys thing let go? Is there a Key on the impeller or drive shaft that could have snapped? I started the ski at home out of the water and the shaft spins inside the hull. I didnt check the impeller for movement because I didnt have the lanyard on me so I had to keep my hand on the kill switch to keep it running. Any help would be great. I would love to get back out on the water this weekend with it..

There isn't a "Key" in the driveshaft/impeller/PTO. Both sides of the drive shaft are splined. I'm betting you stripped the PTO. It's semi-common... especially if you don't grease it once in a while.
