1996 SPX - press on VTS button and gauges reset?

So, had an issue where spark was lost. Replaced my CDI and it fired right up and all seemed well. That was, until i hit the vts button.

when you press it up, the gauges reset and almost act like an on off switch. The moment i release the vts switch up button, gauge dies again.

now the ski won’t start! I get no power.

im so confused. Did my VTS short circuit and disrupt everything?

It’s pretty common on your generation for a bad VTS unit to short out things including the MPEM.

I would unplug both connections from the VTS, check for blown fuses and retest.
