1996 spx charging

I have a 1996 spx and the batt goes dead is there a charging system and how do I check to make sure it is working?

rectifier...

fire ski up, then rev to 5500rpm, while hold'n that rpm, voltmeter the battery, should be high 13's/low 14's...

Thanks for the info.Can I run the ski without water for this test?If not how do I hook up the water?

yeah, have water hooked to it. If there isnt a white spigot looking thing, with red cap on it, then hit up home depot, and get a T fitting, some hose clamps, 4in water hose, and a hose garden fitting, with plug on it, then cut the cooling line,...from looking from back of ski, the line on the right of motor at top.
