1996 sportster starting issues

I recently purchased a 1996 seadoo sportster which started up fine when buying it, and after we took it to the lake it started and drove fine. After about 2 miles the throttle was losing power and in the span of about 15 seconds, the motor died and never started again. There is no smoke when I am cranking it. I poured a little gasoline into the carb and it still didn’t start. It cranks but no smoke. I believe this is the 657 motor
