Hi guys I bought a 96 Sea-Doo SPX i've only had it out a handful of times since I bought it a month ago. When it's in the water and you're giving it gas and up and planing it makes a funny sound. When it's out of the water on the trailer you do not here it. I know the sound is not right but didn't know how big of a concern it would be. The performance seems to be the same. I have plans for the weekend to ride. Any input would be a big help thanks guys

could it just need the oil changed?

well what the heck is the sound?

i bet its cavitation, does it take its time to get up on plane?

ya, what does it sound like ?

usually its the other way around, people think it sounds bad (seadoo rattle) on the trailer but sounds great in the water.

I had the same problem on my spx 800... Was makin a funny noise like rocks in engine compartment. Turns out I had a broken motor mount and it was the carbon seal bouncin around. Check your motor mounts! Reach in and pull on the exhaust pipe hard and see if you can shake engine!

ok, manlo's post reminded me of an xp I had that I think wasn't aligned 100% right, and in that case the driveshaft was actually bumping the fiberglass at the seal, eventually the shaft shapped. but it sounded like rocks.

do the motor mount test and if its solid there, lay under the trailer and start it up and see if you see it rattling against the glass underneath.

(we're all just guessing here)

sorry forgot about that part. it sounds like a whining sound. it doesn't sound like the (seadoo rattle or rocks) the ski will plane right away, but when you first start riding sometimes it will bog down then take right off (need to work on carbs). All motor mounts look good. when i 1st got the ski the exhaust bolts where loose but i have fix that.

thanks for all the help!

whining sound = bad carbon seal driveshaft bearing or bad pump bearings would be my first guess.
