1996 Sea Doo XP Double Lip Seal

I just want to make sure, but when installing the double lip seal into the jet pump housing, the double lip seal is placed and pressed into the housing so that the metal coil/spring is visible from the outside? Or is it pressed in so that you cannot see the metal coil/spring around the seal?

Pretty sure the recommended position is the spring visible on the outside. BUT... knowing all the crap that goes through the area and the ease of installaion with the large flat area to tap on (I use a large socket as a driver and I put some Ultra Gray RTV (small amount) to help seal the peremiter of the seal) I put the spring facing the INSIDE. LOL This isn't a recommendation, it's just what I do. There is a nice LIP on each end of the rubber shaft contact surface so I think the point is moot. "Spring visible is the recommended position" and it is the most difficult way to install it as far as I am concerned so I don't do it that way. Good Luck
