this is my first jet ski. i have owned lots of snowmobiles and wow are the sleds easier to work on. i bought a very clean 1996 sea doo xp and when i got it it ran fine with a small delay on full throttle and i listened to my neighbor who said it needed a carb rebuild. thats when the problems started. rebuilt carbs and would not even run under any throttle. i replaced rectifier and is runs crisp as can be from mid to high speed. actually fells faster than when i got it. but now i i give it full throttle from a stand still it will want to cut off. eventually if i throttle up slowly it will taka off. i tried the full choke under full throttle and it just turns off. has new black gas lines. new needles and seats . has original springs on needles and seats. pop off pressure is 35 and 38. i have put in so many hours trying to figure this out and dealers are str8 up Aholes to give any info. first thing i did when i got it was drained fuel and replaced with non ethonal fuel. rave valves where clean and i raised the red valve cover caps to flush with the top. when i got it they were down. tried them back down but did nothing. i did not mess with water box rave cover. (can i mess with water box rave cover?) carbs are very very clean, i blew out ports just to make sure. adjustments were all correct. high idle at 0 low idle at 1. the idleing on ski is flawless just bogs when i hit full throttle from stand still. PLEASE help. any insight would b great. compression test was exactly 150 on both cylinders and spark plugs look great after running

That's what my 97 gts acted like when my accelerator pump on my rebuilt carb wasn't working (originally my carb didn't come with accelerator pump but I needed a new carb so I bought carb with one)

Hey this site does not suck. Those guys don't seem to understand that your ski has no accel pump but they are just trying to share their experience and be helpful.

Open the low speed needles up and see if it helps. There is no difference after 2.5 turns out so don't go any further then that. If that won't do it you have to lower pop off. I set them at about 30psi.

finally someone with legit info. sorry to say though i already tried it. my 60 year old neighbor figured it out. lmao he has never even rode on a jet ski and he figured it out.

It's a lot easier when you can see it in person and not have to interpret the limited information someone gives.

i still dont understand why lowering idle screw didnt work though. whats the difference with lowering jet size or turning in low idle screw?

The idle screw is a mechanical adjustment. It just physically pushes the throttle open, no different then you putting a little tension on the thumb throttle.

The low speed needles are a mixture adjustment. You can turn them in for a leaner mixture or turn them out to richen things up. They can only make about half a jet size or 5psi of pop off difference though. It's ok for fine tuning but many times it's not enough and you need to adjust the jetting or pop off to really get to where you need to be.

50 low speed jets can't be right. I've never seen any that low. If it's running on those the carbs must be dumping fuel in from some other area.

i thought it was strange as well but somehow it worked. my biggest question is the fact i adjusted needle valve pop off from 55 to 35 and the ski ran absolutley horrible. i talked to a local marina mechenic and he gave me a hand full of the black springs from wanderosa carb kit cause they mostly work on yammys and they didnt use that color spring. i clipped my origanol springs that were in the carbs to bring pop off pressure down. i understand now to bend lever(i still would not bend lever). he said throw them in and never an issue. put the springs in and got the mid and high back to butters. then listened to neighbor after i told him choking ski with throttle pinned at stand still just shut it off and he said smaller jets and it worked.
