Hi Guys,

Question about this fuel tank...

The tank's collar where the fuel baffel clamps onto is mostly broken off and the collar can be pulled backwards to the tiny piece of plastic that keeps it hanging on by a thread.

My question is this:

Can this be fixed or repaired in some way or is it now trash and needs to be entirely replaced?

Thanks for any input!

Cliff

You could try plastic welding it but honestly any chance of having gas fumes in the bilge can potentially cause a catastrophic explosion and fire. I would call the dealer and have them run your VIN number as there is an ongoing recall on some of them.

If not I would replace it with a good used one.

Thanks Mik!

I was thinking about the plastic welding route. But felt it wouldn't seal the gas vapors well and have decided against it from a safety point of view.

I did think about the recall. But I didn't know it was ongoing. So I'll call a few dealerships here in the L.A. area.

Thanks for the help!

BTW...I was reading your HX Resto Thead and liked it!

I've only ridden an HX once way back in 1995 or 1996 when I was at a local lake and a guy had a modded HX and let me ride it. WOW was that thing faaaaaast and fun as heck! I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy yours!

Thanks again for the advice!

Oh and I was looking into a good used tank(skeptical about them) or really leaning towards a new one for peace of mind and reliability if I can't get the dealer to replace it.

Thank You for the offer!

The '97 GTX p/n is
275 500 291 and looks like #19 in the picture below:

The '96 GTi p/n is 275 500 183 and looks like #19 in the picture:

If you do indeed have this tank that fits my application. Can you send me some pictures of it, please?

I would like to consider all of my options.

Thanks!

If this is the one you have. It doesn't work for my application.

Call your dealer, back in 95 and 96 this was a problem. It's a standing recall, you can give them your HIN and tell you if your ski is eligible. Do not buy a tank until you do this. If you look in my clapped out thread in my sig line someone I think posted seadoo's phone number to, you can call them as some dealers may tell you your out of luck due to the years, this should never expire since it's a safety hazard. I'm not 100% sure if your model is covered but I would be making 2 calls, your dealer, then seadoo if you strike out with the dealer.

Hey guys,
When there is a recall don't they list the units that are covered somewhere, I know on skidoo they have. Just asking.

So an update on the GTi fuel tank...

I called a local dealer about the fuel tank and they said they would warranty the fuel tank and to bring in the ski so any other warranty work can performed while it's in the Shop, if needed.

I dropped the ski off last Friday and I got a call yesterday saying it was ready to be picked up. So only 7 days later and I got my ski back. Not bad! The service guy said he was shocked the tank came so quickly!

I inspected the newly installed tank along with two new rubber tank straps that were also installed.

So I'm a pretty happy camper now and can continue on rebuilding this tug boat/cruiser.

Thanks to all that helped especially RacerXXX for the info!
