1996 gtx won’t go in water

Bought a 1996 GTX 787. Sent it to the shop and got it “fixed”, had trouble starting it, finally got it started and took it to the lake. Got it in the water and started and it wouldn’t go over 15 MPH, but it would get to nearly 7000 RPM’s. Also it would cut out and die any time it started to get up or get to full throttle.
Any ideas before I go spend more money at the shop?

Sounds like you have cavitation from a bad wear ring.
