1996 GTX Blowing Fuses

Just got a 1996 GTX from a friend. Started fine and the starter would not shut off so we disconnected the hot lead to the the battery. Tried to start it again no go. Put a new ignition button and solenoid. Still nothing. Found the 15 AMP fuse near the Solenoid is blown. Removed all fuses and reconnected the battery. Installed the rear 15 amp fuse did not blow. Added each of the 5 amps fuses one by one in the front box nothing blows. When the 15 AMP fuse was put in the front compartment which I believe is on the MPEM it blew the rear fuse. Any thoughts what may be happening.
 
Get repair off the Internet for free. Check out the charging stator. Manual has check out procedure for it. Check your wiring too. It's never that easy most times. look at the stator.
Unplug stator see if it blows fuse. Then try the charging rectifier.
 
Disconnect the red wire from the rectifier and replace the fuse and see if it still blows. Most likely its a bad rectifier
 
Thanks guys. I have disconnected the wire from the solenoid outbound still blew the fuse although it was not immeadiate. Then disconnected the coil same thing. I am on to the rectifier tomorrow when I get more fuses. After that I am moving to the stator as it is the most expensive part. I will let you know how I make out.
 
Disconncted the red wire on the rectifier then connected the fuses. Reconnected the red wire and it blew the rear fuse. I guess that is saying the rectifier is bad. Should I still check the stator and where is that located?
 
You can check the stator from the three yellow wires that connect to the rectifier. Disconnect them from the rectifier then check for continuity between any two of the three wires Make sure to check between all three wires though and the resistance between them should be about the same. Also, you want to check from all three yellow wires to ground and make sure none of the stator windings is shorted to ground. The stator itself is located in the mag housing on the front of the engine. If the stator checks out ok, go ahead and get yourself a new rectifier
