1996 GTI engine

I’m going to have to rebuild or replace the engine in my 1996 GTI. As I understand it the engine is a 717.

Questions are: If I’m going to replace it is there a way to upgrade to a better engine (more HP or more reliable)?
What engines would be compatible? Would this be a good idea or am I better to stick with what I’ve got?

The 720 is the most reliable engine Seadoo made and is the most powerful on that will drop in. If you want more power just get a ski that already has a bigger engine.
