ok so from my last feed the rectifier fixed the sputter problem ,replacing the boot on the arm on the VTS did not stop the water from getting in ,so i replaced the rubber washer behind the nut on the VTS arm on the outside of the ski ,that made a huge difference ,i did not have to bail water out after running for an hour ,but it still did not stop the water from getting in completely ,although i did ride all day or about 5 hours with out draining water ,but there was still a gallon or 2 inside the boat ,,i have read some thing on a bad carbon ring ,could water get in through a bad ring ,,,i have tried leaving the ski on the trailer backing it in untill the whole back was submerged ,i see no water coming in i even started it and seen nothing coming in ,im thinking maybe at higher rpm's something leaks ,still have no clue here ,, any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Ride it with the seat off in a safe open area. Make sure both of the plastic straws are still in your reduction nozzle. Make sure you still have the 2 10mm X 2mm O-rings between the reduction nozzle and the pump. Take a look at the bailer lines in the back of the hull and make sure they have not fallen down from the high point.

Give the pto 2 pumps of grease.

Check the casting plugs on your tuned exhaust pipe. They fail and need new plugs welded in. Rough in the middle of circles could have a pin hole. Check all the little hoses too. I had one with a hole aimed downward. You can get water in by proposing the bow into waves. I have foam door sealer tape on under edge of the storage bin.

And the water regulator can be messed up and will leak water into the ski. Is the water that is in the ski warm or cold. That will help know if it is a leak or coming from the cooling system (pipe, regulator, hose)

hmmm i guess it was warm water ,but the temp is 100 degrees here and the water is shallow so it is warm i have checked the pipe it seems good i will check it again water rgulator i will try and locate it and check it out

Pic of where mine was leaking...

This is the plug that usually leaks... right under where the water injects into the exhaust pipe. Mine looked like this, and was leaking. I have another 717 that also leaks that is a 2001 i have to fix. Many grind it down and use JB weld (long set NOT quick set) to fill it... it lasts for a few years i have been told. Mine was fixed by a local guy who used some kind of high strength silicone... will see how it holds up. I haven't even got it back in the water yet... stupid kids and their "I don't want to go to the camp, i want to hang out with friends..." :(

A welding shop can make a great repair. They Tig / weld in new plugs. A high school that has a welding school can do it cheap. I have had 2 done for $50 a pipe.

If the pipe is out that's a good option. If it's in.... Well then I'm not sure if they can do it....

Not even sure if that is his problem, but Scotchbrite the area, and JB weld a quarter to the hole. It will get you through the season. I had a pipe running with JB weld for two seasons and didn't even know it was there until I pulled the pipe for another reason. The PO did it.

For mine... I ran it for a few minutes then hopped off in shallow water and took the seat off... I could see it leaking. Can run it on a hose with seat off and I think you should see it. If it's bad enough to get much water in should be obvious I'd think.

my plug looks good and i feel no moister on it maybe i will check it once it has been rode for a half hour or so ,maybe needs to expand ,but i am curious on how the regulator would leak water into the ski

The water regulator has a diaphragm in it. And water is pumped though it. If the diaphragm leaks, (usually at the bottom clamp) or if the regulator housing leaks, it will pour water into the vented side of the diaphragm. This is a direct path into the ski. A telltale sign is rust under the regulator and on the water box. Easy to see if you ride it with the seat off and look back there.

Ok so I took the skis up to the lake yesterday and finally ran great all day and
No water leaks.. I can't believe how it was getting in but that had to be where after I my last post .I said I replaced the washer behind the vts nut where it goes through the Hull and that stopped at least 70 percent of the water . well the last 30 percent was getting in from the foot well seems a few of the rivets that hold the plastic mats down we're broken underneath .the heads were still attached so they looked ok on top but after removing the tops of them I could stick a awl through the Hull into the engine compartment .I put some 100 percent silicone in all 3 of them to see if that was the problem and I am happy to say no water inside after 12 hours in the water

Great! I'm glad you got it worked out. Now go have fun on those Cali lakes that finally have water in them!

We did have fun yesterday until the GTI stopped starting lol it was running so good too ..I think the DTs switch went bad .I plug the safety key in but I get nothing no gauges no lights .nothing .not sure what to look for

Check your fuses. Clean and check connections. Protect with dielectric tune up grease. A big one is your ground cable connection to the engine. Check your E-box behind engine. You get enough water in the hull. It can fill with water and kill the fuse holder and starter solenoid. After full of water and soaking for a while. Been there found it.

Thanks I pulled the MPEM out and tested it it failed on more than one circuit .but everything else checked out .ground cable good fuses are all good all switches checked out good MPEM is the only thing that failed
