I rebuilt the starter with a kit off of ebay and it turned the ski over one time. It will crank with the plugs out but not in. Tried to jump with non running vehichle just wont turn over and starter gets hot. I just figured a new starter would fix it but I don't want to burn up another if it isn't the problem. I have fully charged battery, cleaned all grounds and greased them with di electric so it there something else?

Check your ground and power wire for good contact. What you described is a classic symptom of poor grounding.

Ok now that i am on a computer let me be a little more specific, hard on a phone. The starter was fried from an all day crankfest on a diffrent seadoo last year. I opened it up and found the power wire to the brush burned inside. bought kit and rebuilt.I am doing a complete piece together, I put it all in the hull, pieces and parts total rebuild from the computer and everything was out. new paint seat cover so.. I put a little gas in the cyls and it fired right up. turned it off to make sure I had oil in lines and all that. Would not crank again with plugs in. Checked batt, tried another. cranked without plugs tho. Starter got hoy and melted same wire as before. It was diffrent boat remember so I think starter. I cleaned the grounds to batt, starter, in rear box diss assembeled sanded contacts and greased and re assembled. I get all the chirps after i put key on. front boc cleaned the grounds. top of rear box to batt. so What next? Starter is soldered right now can I test poss to neg out of sterter in anyway to confirm starter?

Well the rectifier will bake the battery not charge or convert ac to dc right? pull the red wire to test right? Does it apply?

I bought a used starter off ebay and replaced mu poss and ground wired with 4 gauge audio wire with new lugs and fired right up. Had it out last weekend and it rad great, just had to break it in so this weekend is going to be awesome:cheers:
