My new project 1996 GSX I purchased partially apart due to not running right and I have it all back together and found the source of the issue to be it is overcharging at 16+ volts. I installed a used voltage regulator and it is still overcharging and I am waiting for another one to arrive for further testing. If it is not fixed by the regulator what other sources cause a ski to overcharge, does the MPEM have anything to do with the charging system. I did unplug the red charge wire to see what voltage was on the red wire out of the regulator and it did not have any output, with it plugged back in obviously the red wire was reading over 16v. Is it normal to see no voltage out of the regulator with only the red wire unplugged and testing right at the regulator?

Midiymac you were correct, I was just overthinking it. Second regulator fixed it all up and is now running correctly with the proper voltage.

The 96 gsx is a great ski by the way. Its a blast to ride, fast, agile, and much easier to ride 2 up then an XP. I love mine!
I haven't had a chance to get it out on the water but look forward to it. I have had many other skis but never one with this hull, my xp was great but a bit too small, I love my GTX for cruising but not as fun to spin around. I think this machine is going to be a blast to ride! I think it turned out pretty nice after cleaning it all up too, not bad for $550 with titles for all too!
