1996 gsx battery drain

This year I’ve been starting to notice my 96 gsx battery dying after about a day or two of riding. At first I thought it was the battery, but when I tested it for warranty replacement it tested good. I had it tested a few times to be sure and it tested good. I put a new voltage regulator in and it still seems to die after running a day or two. Any suggestions on where else to look?

You may have a parasitic draw. Your quick fix is to remove your negative cable after your rides. To try and track down the culprit, put an ammeter between the battery negative and the cable. Then one by one, remove a fuse, till you have no reading on your ammeter.

Stator? That's what actually produces the juice to charge your battery while running. It can be weak rather than dead ( I had this issue on my Honda Shadow) and just not keeping up anymore. They're fairly easy to test with a multimeter. Just look up the specs and test each wire from the stator for in-spec resistance (ohms). My bike had three yellow wires and you had to test resistance of each then measure every combination of two yellow wires for continuity. Any continuity between any two of the stator wires is a failed unit.

Thanks for the help guys, I’ll definitely check for parasitic draw but my guess will be the stator because it seems to die after I’ve been running it

Put a volt meter on it and started it up. 12.7 volts at rest, and when I started it it went to 12.6 volts and stayed there after running for about 45 seconds, increasing the RPMS made no difference, does this sound like the stator?

The stator puts out AC power. The rectifier/regulator converts that to DC power that maintains the battery. If you test any 2 of the 3 yellow wires before they reach the regulator while the engine is running be sure to have the multi meter set to AC.

If the battery drains weather or not the ski is run then there is likely a short. None of the 3 yellow wires should have continuity to ground.
