1996 challenger starting issue...

i had an issue with the pickup coil and after replacing it i had it started on the trailer with the hose and then i took it out to the lake and had it started in the water but after i got out onto the lake i tried to give it some throttle and the throttle was not working so i brought the boat back to the dock and when i tried to restart the boat it sounded like the starter was trying to turn but was having a hard time and once in a while it would turn over good for a few seconds and then stop again...
