1995 Seadoo GTX and 1997 Seadoo SPX issues

Hello, I am new to the PWC forum and PWC world in general.

I went on Craigslist and found a 1995 Seadoo GTX that had been sitting up a while and I got it at a good price.

I also found a 1997 Seadoo SPX that had been sitting for about 8 months and also got it at a good price.

Well I have yet to get these things out on the water functioning properly.

They both have had the carbs rebuilt and fuel lines replaced.

They both get on the water and act like they want to go, then they just bog out. This is happening to both of them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on what needs to be done next.
My mechanic checked the compression on both of them and its still very good. They will run fast sitting on the trailer, but the minute they get into water, they just bog down.

Switch the fuel selector to reserve and try. If they run good then check the fuel selector valve. If you have not already cleaned it, it will need to be cleaned or bypassed.
Check the fuel filter under the hood and make sure it is clean and above all make sure the O-ring is in good shape and not cut or frayed.

I have checked those filters and cleaned them both out.. The O ring appears to be in good shape, but I think I will buy some new ones anyway. I am going take them back to my mechanic today and see what he can figure out... I really am not sure what it could be next after this..:(
 
I don't know, but something sounds funny. Are you sure that the fuel selector is clean and flowing plenty of fuel? If not, get a new one for about 25 bucks or just bypass it.

Also are you %100 sure that the filters inside the carbs are clean and free of gunk?

The skis idle and run fine until more fuel is needed...something is clogged.

Turns out that the fuel selector valve on the GTX was broken, it wouldnt even switch back over to the ON position, got a new one for the GTX and hopefully that will solve the problem.

My SPX is still having the same problem, and I already have cleaned the fuel selector valve and its functioning properly as far as I know. Engine is getting fuel, Im thinking the carburetor needs some tweeking.
 
Great news on the GTX.
The SPX may be flowing fuel, but is it enough? I have 2-94 SPX's and I cleaned the fuel selector valves and got them working, but it still was not enough. Inside the valves the O-rings were worn and frayed. I ended up replacing them both.

Also if you tweek you HSA's and LSA's be careful not to "lean" them out too much. I would set them factory and then if you decide to "tweek," I wouldn't go more than a 1/2 turn either way.

Screwing them in richens the fuel.
Screwing them out leans the fuel.
2 cycle engines don't like lean. They tend to break pistons when to lean.
 
My mechanic said that the oil pump has went out on my 1995 GTX.
I have heard that people bypass their oil tank and pre-mix the fuel when I fill it up. I dont know if this does any damage to the ski.

Has anyone ever done this and does it hurt anything??
Any pointers are appreciated.

It is better to bypass its more work but you can make sure the mixture is perfect.

Yea, I had same problem: mine was bad crank seals. You're sucking oil or air or both from the bad crankshaft seals. Do a leak test to be sure. I went through the carbs, had good compression, great spark, no sheared off flywheel. Make sure your block can hold pressure, 10psi for 3 min (I think).
