Help,

Recently purchased a Sea Doo 1995 Sporster 657cc top end rebuilt but friend could not get it to start after rebuild. Not my first boat or mechanic job but is my first Sea Doo

Electrical connections all good, good battery but when ignition is turned on and starter button pushed it gives one single beep engine will not turn over.

It had ran before rebuild, friend found it to have Low compression so performed the rebuild which was a professional job. After completion he cranked it 3 times, it did try (sputter) to start but did not and now it will not crank at all.

Is this the Diode in MPEM or something else. Can it be found once the material has been removed in the MPEM.

Thanks for any help Sincerely Shovelhead

Yes it is in Neutral, last night found 4 plug connector with one of the Yellow/Green wires going to Mag with prong burnt. Will replace but not sure it caused the no Crank issue possibly the original problem with running but believe there may still be an issue with start/run circuit.

Thanks for any Help

If you bypass the original cranking circuit and make the starting motor turn what happens? Do you think enough assembly oil was used to protect the sliding and rotating parts once the motor has been sitting, does the driveshaft turn almost freely with the plugs out, adding a coffee spoon of oil/gas into each cyl should have some effect on getting started up. On our 657 xp there was nothing beeping when we killed the mpem, no crank-no spark, I spent many hours making it crank and added oil until I read in several places the spark failed as a result of using a running tractor and jumper cables - I found another box on ebay and 2 weeks later it started up with a lot of smoke to kill the insects in the barn.

Voodoo,

The fellow I got it from did try that without sucess, however I'm sure the Plug to and from the Mag was burnt when he tried. Is the system capable of starting without the MPEM. What is in the Module that would control anything?? I've worked on many different toys from Triumph Spitfires to HD Honda, Susuzki the 1995 Sea Doo I don't understand What the MPEm does as far as a Critical asset unless it controls the oil injection.

The Gas Tank was mixed with the Breakin Oil when it does start. I will try to replace plug tonight and try jumping the Start (across Solenoid) and check for fire.

Should I add a few drops of oil in Cylinders to prevent damage cranking the now setting engine. It has not turned over since it was rebuilt approx 1 yr ago.

Thank you very Much!!

Sincerely Shovelhead

I'd check the neutral safety switch, I think it beeps when you have the boat in gear and try and start it, it shouldn't "beep" at all... :)

I'd definately check all the wiring. 1 beep usually means that there is a problem with the connections between the DESS system and the MPEM.

If the boat was in gear or the neutral switch was defective, that would be indicated by 4 beeps.

I did not think the 1995 had a DESS? I'll try replacing the plug to the mag and ignition system and try again. Did I understand correctly that if MPEm was bad I would not get any Beeps?/

Thanks for all the Help

Bill

The 95's don't have D.E.S.S...At least not that I'm aware of, that became standard in 96+ boats, you can easily tell by looking at the post, if it has any metal rings/plate/dot it has DESS.

Even with the motor completely disconnected you should hear a "click" from the selinod, and no beeps when pressing the starter. The plug on ignition will not keep the boat from turning over...

I'd bypass the neutral switch, check all connectors and the lanyard post are working. Does it beep as soon as you press the start button or after awhile of holding it down?

The beep occurs after holding down a few sec or so, there aren't any other sounds present except for a slight click located in the MPEM after releasing the start button. Nothing when button is pressed indicating something is holding out start circuit.

When trying with shifter in forawrd or reverse then the beep is different indicating Neutral is good same with Lanyard, when removed there is mutiple beeps indicating it is OK when replaced.

The MPEM had been changed out recently because it has the replacement unit installed "Not" the original "Black" box.

Thanks again for "Any" help.

Well those details make a huge difference, since you're hearing the "click" I'd swap out the starter selinoid, you can test this by jumping the selinoid with a screw driver(watch for sparks.. :) )..The engine should turn over, if not you're battery is dead....

Sorry like I said it is a light click "Not" one associated with a Solenoid. I know that click and this is a very "Light" sound that can also be lightly felt in the MPEM.

Nothing to describe I know that makes this light of a noise there must be a small relay or something in the MPEM.

Solenoid was replaced no difference. Jumping across did crank engine but no spark I believe the Plug to Mag is why it did not start when jumping solenoid.

But I don't know why it will not turnover without jumping solenoid.

Thanks for the Help Though

When you put the lanyard on how many beeps do you get? I think you should get two beeps for a good key, 4 means bad? You'll need to research that.. :)

Don't know what to tell ya, if it beeps when you attach the key it has dess...

None of my 95 machines beep, except the speedster and that's only when it's not in neutral...

It does not Beep when I attach the key unless you are calling Lanyard Key. it Beeps when I hit the Start button and only beeps once and does not turn engine over.

Thanks for all the Help I really appreciate it

Bill
