I looked in a Seadoo Manual and in the troubleshooting section it says that if there is no spark the problem is the MPEM. I looked up a price fore one of these items and its US$406.00 pretty steep. Being a novice can anyone explain why this MPEM should fail?
If the MPEM is faulty, is there something that can be used as an alternative that is not so expensive.
The jetski is only worth say $2000.00 and spending the money plus freight to get it to Australia is not worth doing.

there are plenty of other things that will cause no spark. check all connections on wires for corrosion or loose connection, check stator in the mag, clip 1/4 inch off plug wires and reinstall the boots. i dont know if your year/model has the advanced diagnostics or not but its worth a try. hit the start button 5 or 6 times and if you get one short beep then one long beep it has entered advanced diagnostic mode. put your key/cap on post and push start button again once. two short beeps means bad connection at post, i believe 8 short beeps means bad mpem. two long beeps means wrong key. you can test all of your ignition with an ohm meter to find defective component just a little time consuming.

no dess

no dess, SRUSH...so dont believe prior to 96, will give the "advance" diagnostics...

victortrry........locate the white electrical box, on left side of fuel tank. Snorkel it out, and crack'r open. You'll see the mpem in there, notice on the "coil"..(where the spark plug wires attach to) you'll see a black/red wire attach to it, also that same wire, it'll branch off with the same color wire, to a butt connector. UNPLUG the butt connector, and then try to start ski. If it starts, you just bypassed everything, so only way to kill motor, is to PULL THE CHOKE.
