Hello everyone. New here and new to PWC stuff. I was givin a old 1994 SPI with a 587 moter in it. It has been out of the water for about 3 years now. Things I have already done. I have pulled out all the old gas/oil. Tomorrow I am going to pull the carb and rebuild it. Got the kit today as well as replace all the fuel lines and filters. One one big concern is that the electronics might not work. How can I test/ figure out if I have a spark. I would also love any other tips that any one can think of to help me get this thing running. And yes it was running when it was last used.
Thanks everyone,
Rudy

Well I got a spark. Which is good. Any tips on rebuilding the carb and testing if the oil pump is still working. Any helpful hints would be nice there. Ive heard that you can just run premix if the pump is not working?. I would rather bring it back to OEM but if its to exspensive than im not going to worry about it. Any help would be great. I am replacing the fule lines how about the oil lines. Sould I worry about them as well. I would like to check the impeller is there an easy way to do this?
Thanks
Rudy

If the PO was running OEM oil/fuel set-up your oil pump should be good. There's an article in Tech Tips on how to check it, but the easiet way is once you get it running, reach down and pull up on the oil injector lever. If the pump is working you should see blue smoke boiling out the exhaust at idle.

I have three SPi's (one is a donor ski), so I'm right with you on restoring. I prefer the OEM fuel/oil set up. The carb is pretty easy to rebuild, but really pay attention when you remove the carb/oil pump assembly. They are bolted to the Rotary Valve Cover, and the entire unit comes off together. The Rotary Valve is a thin piece of metal under the Rotary Valve cover, and if it comes off the sproket you will have to re-set the engine timing. Which means you'll need a degree wheel and a shop manual.

If your pump is bad, I have a good one off an SPi. PM me if you want it. $30.00 plus shipping.
