I'm brand spanking new to the PWC world and this is my first post on this site (hope I'm in the right place).

I just bought a 1994 SeaDoo bombardier GTS. I don't really know anything about it. The guy I bought it from got it for doing HVAC work and the person couldn't pay so gave him the jet ski.

It runs great! Fires up on the first crank, runs smooth and doesn't appear to have any issues. However it's SLOW!!!

According to my friends PWC with a speedometer on it I'm only getting up to 24mph. It's also super slow on take off. Just starts to plane as I'm getting up to top speed.

Is it just a slow ski or is something wrong with it?

Thanks in advance!!

I checked the wear ring and it definitely needs replacing. Gap is well over 0.040. I can't get the impeller housing off though. Got all four bolts removed. They came off fairly easy. Removed the bailer lines and the other large black house from inside the bilge. But she still won't budge.

Any tips would be appreciated!!

If the last servicer was anything like I saw on my old Doo's, a thick layer of sealant was used around the thru hull tubes and around the bolts when the pump was installed. That and a double sided foam tape on the end of the pump would be what are holding it in place. Doo what you can to get some mini flat bars, putty knife, whatever - between the pump and the hull to pry it off. Don't reef on it, be firm but gentle. You will see movement and progressively work it off of there. It will come. ... when you put it back on, use a light coat of sealant, makes it easier next time. It is a case where a little is needed for sealing it up to prevent leaks into the hull, BUT more is not better here.

Hope that helps!

Ok. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. Does the shaft have to be disconnected from anywhere prior to removing the housing?? Or am I just fighting the sealant?

Helps a lot! I really appreciate it.

You should be just fighting the sealant and foam tape. There is a rubber boot on the shaft at the front of the impeller. It isn't clamped or anything. It will just pop out as you pull the pump.

After lots and lots of work!!! I had to build a homemade puller, and that worked great. But it was on so tight it was absolutely impossible to do it by hand. There was over a 0.2 gap between the impeller and the wear ring. Looked to be the original. Not sure though. Either way the new one fits right as a glove!!

It may be too late now ... I suggest you check for and write down the impeller number. So you know for sure what you have in there. One of my old seadoo came with wrong one in it. Ran great but boglogged terribly. Had I not known any better, the performance would have sent me tearing apart other stuff unnecessarily and costly. I changed the prop and it runs fantastic now.

That's a really good idea!! Unfortunately it's already put back together. It runs great though! Picks right up out of the water like it should!
