1993 problem continuing to tub

My 1993 SPI only runs when you hold down the starter button. Just picked it up for $200 bucks.

Not sure. Seems like it disengages but I am able to rev high. As soon as I let the button go, it dies.

I am having a similar problem with a 92 XP I am resurrecting.... mine runs also when holding the button down and when I release it ,it seems to lose spark . I have heard that if you do let up on the button and it stops immediately, it would most likely be the starter from what a mechanic had told me. I'm a novice mechanic with these machines but have been able to get them and keep them running. If you somehow find out what's causing it let me know. I have not rectified my problem yet.

Going a little further back but I think the older ones used a kill switch that is the opposite of the newer ones. They ar normally closed when the new ones are normally open or vice versa. That might be your issue if they have been changed.

I've learned that about the kill switch plus much more on this orum and always very appreciative! I have 3 running 92 xps so I've been able to swap out working suspect components with no results.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like a common problem on the older units. No match yet with someone who was able to solve this issue. I am out of town but I’ll pick up on it again when I get back and follow your leads.
