1990 sp hitting rev limiter at only half throttle position

Hi all,
I'n new on here and to jet skiing for forgive my inexperience please.
I have a 1990 sp and it seems to run fine however if i push the throttle to more than half open it revs and the rev limiter (i asume) cuts in. The ski seems to have power in the water and seems to go fairly quick but something is obviously wrong. I have tacho'd the flywheel on the trailer and its hitting around 5400rpm every time and then the rev limited cuts in and out as you would expect, i do seem to be getting these revs on the water too. I have checked the intake grate and visually checked the impellor/wear ring clearance (looks about 0.5 - 1.0mm) Any suggestions please?

Have just checked the clearance between impellor/wear ring with feeler guages and its 0.2mm - 0.3mm at the centre of the impellor blade.
Any help please.

those rev read'ns are low. unplug the red wire on part #13. See what happens

Ok have tried disconnecting the red wire - same thing happens. Any ideas?

What about the coil? Is there a low and high side? Maybe the high side doesn't work and that why it will only rev to 5400. How can i check the coil?

Ok have now replaced the coil and now getting 6400. Happy days.
