I just installed a Kenwood KMR-440U deck in my '97 speedster. I want to be able to save my settings each time I kill power from the main battery. Has anyone added a small 12V sealed lead acid type battery to accomplish this? I have a few extra batteries just sitting around.

I havent, but I know it can be done. I have a buddy that actually just used a regular 9 volt battery and it works. He got the little connector lead from radio shack for like 2 bucks. It holds the memory for a whole season and he swaps it out every season.

That would be a pretty easy installation! Not sure if my deck would work on 9V but for a couple bucks I guess it's worth a try. Thanks for the tip.

that or run a separate wire from the battery side of the main isolator all the way to the permanent power on the deck, just be sure to install a small inline fuse at the start of the wire/cable to prevent fires etc if the wire gets damaged or earthed out in some way.

more work than a 9v battery but its done forever though it could very slowly drain the battery.

For me its not a matter of how much it draws. I just want to know when I have the battery switched to OFF, every circuit is truly off. I just deal with it. I use an ipod for music storage and the amp is what sets my levels, so its not a big deal really.
