I have a 06 RXP it has been sitting for about 10 months in dry storage in Florida I drained the old fuel out and replaced it with 100oct changed the batt put new plugs in and it seemed to be fine ran for about 5min an shut off and would not start so I replaced the plugs again and it started up and did the same cleaned the plugs and now it will fire but will not stay running any idea as to why or what i need to do??? I checked the fuel pump and it seems to be running fine

Is the gauge trying to tell you anything before it quits? Sure sounds like it's running out of fuel. Just because the pump is running does'nt mean it's creating the proper pressure. You need to check fuel pressure. There is a filter on the bottom of the fuel pump ( in the tank) that may be clogged. It's removable and can be cleaned. Good luck.

No it didnt say anything before it quit an now i just fires up for only a split sec.. I am going to remove the filter and check it I will report back after

Well I pulled the pump and drained the tank agian cleaned out the left over trash and also cleaned the filter look a little dirty but no dealer around stocked one so I cleaned old best I could and put back together now it wont even start at all checked plugs looked oily so cleaned them and same prob??? I dont know how bad the pumps are about going out but the ski only has 40hrs on it

Freshly changed NEW plugs should NOT look oily after just a few seconds of run-time! If your plugs are getting fouled that quickly, you have something very bad wrong... engine oil shouldn't be fouling the plugs like that, it shouldn't be making it into the cyclinders at such a high rate!

So tell us about the last time this Doo was run some 10+ months ago, did anything unusual happen then? What's it's running history? Why was it put up in storage for so long after it's last run? Also what's the oil level like? It should be about in the middle of the bend of the dip-stick, NOT at the top of the bend and NOT at the bottom of the bend! When was the oil and filter last changed and by whome?

They got oily trying to start it not running it. oil looks clean level is at the middle of the dip stick ran perfect last time out not to sure about the time of the last change think it was done bye the dealership tho like i said only has 40hrs on the ski and it was in storage because of the weather and didnt feel like riding it

But, I'd think you should be able to crank on it all day long (without it starting!) and the plugs should still not turn oily... that's concerning, to me. Obviously your battery must be good and your plugs are good... hey here's an idea, take a can of WD-40 and using the red tube spray some into the carb port while cranking and see if it'll start and run (WD-40 will run an engine!). If it'll run while you spray WD-40 into the carb port, then there's a fuel supply issue going on or something wrong with your fuel (perhaps the fuel line is blocked somewhere or that filter isn't letting enough fuel pass thru anymore in spite of your attempt to clean it?). That's my best guess where to go from here.

ps. One more thing, is it possible that the carb throttle cable is stuck at WOT (kill mode)? After sitting in storage for 10 months, it could be sticky.

Yea i dont know I bought a brand new battery and keep the charger on it whille I am trying to crank it.... I am not sure where the carb port is I will look sure I can trace it down. any help finding it???

An I checked the throttle cable looks good lubed it just in case tho

Any thing else that would cause it to go into "kill mode" that you are talking about?

Kill mode is when the throttle is at WOT while you are trying to start the engine... it will NOT start if the throttle is at WOT. I don't know how it knows exactly, but somehow it does (I think it may cut the fuel off completely at WOT if there isn't engine vacuum present).

The carb port is that little yellow plug thingy on top of the engine cover... you pop the little yellow cap off, and there's a line there that runs down into the throat of the carb. It's intended for fogging the engine (ie. spraying fogging oil into the carb while the engine is running to fog it). However, you can also spray WD-40 or starting fluid into the carb by that same port. I'd avoid starting fluid though if I were you, engines tend to get addicted to that stuff and it shouldn't be necessary. WD-40 though is safe to spray into a carb to get an engine to start and run in my experience (mainly used it with lawn mowers to verify they would run when their was a fuel issue going on).
