I am up on vacation, and just finally got my 03 GTI LE out of storage and fired it up last weekend. It fired up just fine and idled fine, revved it up a bit with the flush kit installed but I don't like to rev it much out of water. Everything seemed fine so I towed it 4 hours away to a lake where we stay. Got it in the water yesterday and after idling and barely revving through the no-wake zone away from the launch I find it wont build rpm's anymore after about half throttle. It will rev up to half throttle quickly without hesitation but after that either misfire or just not rev higher(hard to tell). Will sit there and idle just fine and pick up like its going to take off normally but just wont rev. I limped it back to the boat launch this morning to get it back on the trailer to work on it and by the time I got back to the launch it was starting to hesitate from the bottom but would rev to half throttle within a second or two but seemed to be running even poorer.

While it was still in the water I tried a new set of plugs which did not help at all.

Its sitting on the trailer now and I pulled the carb but im not sure where to really start with this. At first I suspected the high speed needle to be clogged, but after reading the service manual I found online this isn't comparable to any of the other stuff I work on(dirt bikes, snowmachines) so I figured id better seek some help before I ruin anything. Was going to drop the carb off down at the dealer but they are closed until Tuesday and we leave Saturday. So hoping to do this myself!

Any ideas? Thanks guys

If you can find any kits local there are tons of stuff online on how to rebuild. First problem your gonna have though is finding some kits .

You're saying rebuild kit? Yeah if I cant do anything now ill have to wait for the dealer to open and hope they have a rebuild kit in stock

I've got the same problem with mine. I've got a thread going and I've ran in circles. Most likely it's your carb. Check out my thread... Hope that helps so you can go through all the stuff I have and rule them out. Good luck!
