Finally got a full day on the water yesterday and did some top speed gps pulls. I’m getting 58mph and 6640 is the top wot rpm. I know the mph is right in the ball park but the rpm seems a bit low. I have a solas concord 15/20 impeller and I’m thinking maybe that’s a bit too much for a stock di? Thinking of throwing a stock one in to see if I can get in the 6800 rpm range and a couple more mph?

I'll be following this thread. I have a RI -DI I purchased with the locked up engine. I rode it the day before it locked up so I know everything works. I clocked it at 55mph on the GPS but the wear ring needed replacement. I'm pretty sure an oil leak drained the reservoir and bam.... she was done. Shame... nice ski. I"m gonna fix it. :D

I would keep it as is.

Stock is 55-56 mph so with the Solas impeller it is just like taller gearing on a car, your top speed has increased to 58 mph but there is more of a load on the engine because of the higher gearing so your rpm is less at 6640.

If you go to a stock impeller you will get more top rpm but less mph. That Solas impeller is doing exactly what it is supposed to do so I am not sure why you would go back to stock?

Is that all the speed a RX has ?? I was hoping for 58 or 59mph on the gps of course..... and without modifications. The XP is bouncing on 55mph and I"m not done tweakin.

These are actual radar tested speeds not GPS so they are more accurate.

Thanks for the info. I just wasn’t sure if the impeller was hurting performance since the engine is hitting its drag limit sooner. It has a nice hole shot and great acceleration so I’m gonna leave it alone. I’m also 235lbs so I guess 58 mph top speed isn’t bad. I know one thing, the di skis get a bad rap but I love how this thing runs. I had a few carbed 951s years ago and just love how the di fires right up as soon as you hit the start button, has a nice crisp throttle to it too.

03 GTX DI speed is unacceptable !!! I guess the hull design slowed them down BUT.... That POS better go faster than what is quoted in the bible.

That was when they switched to the 4-tec hull so yes, larger, heavier and more drag than any other 2-stroke hull that seadoo had. 51-52 is pretty reasonable for what it was.

Had the ski out again yesterday and noticed when coming off idle if you go wide open I have some cavitation when it’s coming up on plain, almost like when riding in rough choppy water and the ski comes out off the water momentarily. Any idea what could be causing this?
