2001 GTI... oil ussues

- I run the ski at idle in the yard.. reach down and fully enguage the oil pump.. doesnt smoke

- From the oil tank there are 2 large lines.. one goes into the lower end.. one comes back from the engine to the oil tank. I dont see any movement there, in fact, the line going back to the oil tank only has oil 2/3's of the way to the tank.. then I can see through the hose.. Follow?

1- What do they do?
2- Should I see oil moving during normal operation?

Thaniks for your help!

Oil Usage

Hi,

You are probably not going to see any movement, the ski will use a little less than one quart of oil per 25gal. of gas. What you can do is take a sharpie pen and draw a line at the oil level on the tank. Use the jet ski and check to see if the oil level is below the line.

If you think that the oil pump is not working or something is restricting the flow of oil you can mix 40:1 oil with gas. Your ski will smoke more than normal, but you will have sufficient lubrication even if the pump is not working.

What do those larger lines do? Im going to premix some.. so I can ride with a settled mind. May smoke a little.. but it will allow me to ride and watch the oil consumption ... let me see if it is working at all.

Oil Lines

I just checked the manual, it looks like one hose goes to the oil pump and then to the engine, the other hose goes to the rotary valve directly from the tank to the rotary valve.

The hose to the rotary valve appears to be not under pressure so I would assume this only provides drip lubrication.

I'm not an expert, does anyone else have any input on this?

The 2 larger oil lines provide oil to the rotary shaft gears that are inside the engine. You will not see oil circulate while engine is running. The oil line coming from the left side of the engine and going to the top of the oil tank is the oil return line and is never full of oil but you should always see oil in it. The oil in the return line will be at the same level as the oil in the tank. It's a oil bath kind of situation.
