a little background.

I had an issue where the ski was bogging down. It would run about 60+ WOT but would start bogging. I decided to check the interal filters on the carbs. They were a mess. I cleaned them and replaced the grey lines while I was at it. Didn't make any other adjustments or changes.

took the ski out today. It starts up fine and idles around 1k, I try to open it up and it will not go past 2300 rpms while in the water. I took the ski out of the water and started it up and it gunned it, the RPMs pegged out without any issues.

I'm stumped and very frustrated.

Any ideas/advice?

did you check the front filter? i had one not seal and had to replace it. just a cheap one from an auto parts store. also did you clean all the internal passages in the carbs when you were in there? and did you use a new kit when you put it back together?

yes front filter is good and sealed. cleaned all the passages and new kit.

On another note, I just took the caps off the Rave valves and 1 looks like it might be opening higher than the other. Not sure if it matters, just an observation.

Clean the fuel selector valve, bypass it or buy new. Chances are good that what ever mess you found in the internal fuel filters, you will find in the selector valve.
Run the ski on reserve. If it runs good then you know it is the selector valve.

I am in Hiram...do you hang out on Allatoona?

i'm having the SAME exact problem.
wont rev past 2600rpm after changing the lines.
I have tried running it in reserve but that did not solve anything.

How do I remove the fuel selector?

Remove the fuel selctor by taking the rubber thing out of the center, unscrew the screw, pop off the nob, then use a wrench to loosen it.

I would check your water regulator.

What exactly am I checking with the water regulator??
You are reffering to the rave valve looking thing on the water box?

Thx

somebody else suggested it might be a rectifier problem.

Holes in the diaphragm and/or broken spring. Dont unscrew the red cap. Yes it is the rave looking thing.

I've tried both normal and reserve and get the same results.

I'm in Acworth so I use Allatoona, ususally old 41.

Bypass it

Hey so do I...I'm the guy with the Maroon superduty!!!

Bypass the selector valve. Take the reserve off the selector valve and run it to the "in" side of the filter. Take the remaining line and loop it back to the selector valve so that the "on" port is going straight into the reserve port on the valve itself. Now you are running straight from the tank to the filter to the carbs. If that doesn't solve your fuel delivery problems then there is some crud on the bottom of the fuel baffle , the filter O ring is not sealing, or you did something wrong when you cleaned your carbs.

I’m not convinced it’s a fuel delivery problem. If it was fuel delivery problem I would think, I would get the same results on and off the trailer. If I have it on the trailer it runs STRONG. No hesitation, no delay, maxes out the RPMS. Put it in the water, starts without issue, idles without issue, just wont get past 2500 RPM’s.

When I put it in the first time after the RAVE cleaning, it took off, up to about 5k or so but only for a min or so. Then back below the 2500k and at this point that’s all it will do.

I’ve cleaned the RAVE valves and actually took the carb off again. (Putting it back on tonight). I’m just dumfounded at this pointed. What else could it be????

BTW, I have the silver 4 door frontier.

On the trailer it is not under a load, so it revs high and quick, usually straight up and "bump" against the rev limiter.
If it were ignition it would do it all the time.
Fuel delivery on the trailer is no problem because of the no load situation. Therefore, no need for more fuel.
Have you checked the impeller by rotating it CCW by hand with the spark plugs out.
