'00 GTX RFI Oil?

Hello everyone!

Last year I purchased a '00 RFI that needed a lot of work on the drive system. I completed the work earlier this summer and took the ski out on the water — it ran great with no issues. The second time I took it out, the ski bogged down and then wouldn’t start back up. The only thing that I had changed between the first and second time was the oil. The engine cranks at full movement, but it just doesn’t seem as though the fuel is igniting. Is there any chance that the TC-w3 oil I put in the ski is preventing the engine from combusting? I didn’t realize that the RFIs are required to use full synthetic until after this incident occurred.

Thank you for your help in advance.

First off it doesn't matter what TCW-3 oil you use it is wrong.
If you put the wrong oil in which you did and there was still some of the correct oil in it, it could have gelled and plugged up the oil filter.
This is unlikely but could happen.

I would check compression first.

You need to get all that oil out and install the correct API-TC full synthetic oil and install a new oil filter then bleed the entire oil system.

Thanks for the reply.

Compression seems good reading at 130 and 140.

There was definitely oil remaining in the tank and if I remember correctly it was a full synthetic PWC oil. It was just ignorance on my part by trying to guess the oil. I’m assuming at this point that it has to be something with oil filter/lines unless you might have any other suggestions before I get into that.

Thanks again.

Really shouldn’t cause it to not run.

You would be surprised, I would say over 90% of people put the wrong oil in them.
