‘02 GTX -DI things I should check

I have an ‘02 GTX-DI, I bought I used in June of 2002 with 3 hours on the meter.

In researching a 2nd PWC, I came across many discussions of these di’s being ticking time bombs. So I want to insure mine doesn’t detonate!

It now has 165 hours. I replaced the fuel pump last year. On advice from somewhere I run a bit of an oversized battery in her.
The only issue I had; a couple of large people (combined weight of 650-700 lbs) used the unit 5 or so years ago a... young couple jumping wakes and running it wide open and basically torture testing the ski. Something went wrong and the ski took on water, a lot of water... but it was still running, I just noticed how low it was in the water. I took it to an Indy shop for repairs, I don’t know what the issue was. Ever since the ski takes on small amounts of water into the hull, not enough to make me go searching for the leak.

We live on a lake and generally the Doo isn’t ridden for long periods of time... someone will hop on it and ride 10-30 minutes at a time.

I’ve rebuilt motorcycle top ends, 2 stroke dirt bikes and four stroke Harleys... so with you tube and a service manual, I can do my own wrenching.

What should I be checking to rebuild to insure she makes it another trouble free 165 hours?

About 200-250 hours is tops for the 951 engine as the crank and balancer shaft are typically done at that point.

All you can do is give it fresh fuel, change the balancer oil and feed it full synthetic API-TC oil and fog the engine after every ride.

I can get a rebuilt block w/ new crank and “remanufactured” balancer shafts for under 2k.
I’m wondering if that would be a good way to go in the off-season to insure I can enjoy the ski for another 15+ years. What I don’t know is the useful life span of the other components in the ski.

I don’t know if it would be a wise decision or if I’d be better just running as is until it’s used up and parting it out then, and buying a new ski.

I was discussing this with a neighbor and he said just sell it now and buy another ski... I don’t think I could do that to someone!
