racexxx, I hadn't tested the battery. just assumed since it started one engine it would start the other. This is the simplest fix so I think I will start by testing the battery. thanks

Thanks for the responses. i do not have a battery switch in the back so this won't be a factor. i think it must either be clogged or shot completely. i'll pull it out this weekend and find out.
