Sounds like the crank seals. One way to tell would be once you got it running again, pinch off the oil supply lines. If the cylinders aren't filing up then it's the seals. In fact, some people put a valve on the supply lines to squeeze a little more life out of the engines before a rebuild...
Now that I have just about finished the restoration of my 99 Challenger 1800 it's looking like I am probably going to have to sell it in the Spring for medical reasons. Between what I paid for it and what I have put into it I am at just over $10k. I know I'll never get that back but what do...
Just one engine or are both doing this? If it's both then most likely it's the battery. If the battery checks out then look at the wiring. If it's only one engine, check to make sure you don't have a bad seal and the engine is filling with oil.
I highly recommend downloading a copy of the...
First time riding a jetski was when I was in the Navy stationed in Florida. My buddy and I rented one each for like 30 minutes. Right then and there I knew I had to have one! It took me awhile before I was able to get one of my own and by that time I needed something bigger to take the whole...
Make sure you have a fully charged battery. I use a trickle charger always with the battery switch off. I'd check the beeper first.
You do have a copy of the shop manual, right? ;)
Still perplexed by this. Some more info. Using the zerk fitting as a rough timing mark, the engine is stopping at the same place in the cycle. The zerk is either at 0 degrees or 180 degrees when it stops. The other thing is that this stopping only happens when the PTO cylinder spark plug...
If you have spark and compression, then fuel is where you should check next. You can try to put a little mixed gas directly into the cylinders to see if it fires. If so then you know it's the carbs.
I posted this in the two storke boat section but had no luck and hoping someone over here might have an idea. I am two years into my Challenger 1800 restoration and have this one last hurtle. My starboard engine won't start. It starts turning over and the the starter disengages then spins...
I checked the ground and that seems good. I checked the continuity from the spark plug to the negative battery terminal and no problem.
Here's a video that helps explain what I am seeing.
Is the tank still connected to the fill hole? Should just be a hose clamp holding it on but it can be a pain to remove. I'd just work from the bottom but that's just me on my challenger 1800. I think you really need to be a contortionist/trapeze artitst to work on these boats anyway.
Not...
Not familiar with the layout of the speedster but on my challenger 1800 it was possible to replace the grommet with tank still in. Since you have the tank already loose should make it a little easier. I found putting a little bit of lube on the grommet made it easier to put in.
I've found...
