XPL no beep- Help! Blowing fuse

Hey guys,

My 99 XPL was riding great and then one day it stopped starting. It clicked like the solenoid was bad so I jumped the solenoid and it would crank and turn over for a second or two and then boownhe 5A fuse. So I replaced it twice and it blew it both times again.

I have fuses in it now and am not even getting a beep when I plug the key it anymore. Grounds are good, I've tried multiple batteries.

Any suggestions. I was picking Braley's brain about it as well just wondered if anyone else had input.

Thanks!

Test continuity on fuse... don't just visually inspect. Also unplug the VTS ar the back and see if it still blows. But I bet the diode is blown on the mpem from someone somewhere along the line jumping from a running vehicle. This is repairable, and I have done it on my GTI computer when it kept popping 5a fuses. You just have to search around for the location of the diode next to the fat plug/fuses, then cut through the plastic housing, dig out the potting material and solder in a new diode for $6

Does jumping it from another ski blownthe diode as well?

Not generally, no. Its the amps that pop the diode when jumping from a running vehicle. The Seadoo charging system doesn't generate as much amperage as a vehicle, and isn't designed to resist it, although both are 12V. I have jumped ski to ski on the water before, and carry lightweight jumpers on the skis for this reason. Has helped others more than helped myself.

There are other things that blow the 5amp fuse, but a lot of the time its either VTS or the diode or worst case the mpem is smoked entirely. Like I said, try unplugging the wide plug in the back for VTS and see if it turns over or pops the fuse. My mpem popped the 5a fuse the second that the + battery terminal was connected, which is typical for the blown diode.... was on a 717 engine, but same dealio....

My VTS doesn't work but I'll try it when I get home.

I'm just dumbfounded that the keynisnt at east beeping because then I could have a starting point...

Even if VTS isn't working, it could still be shorting out the mpem

What happens when you push the start button with no key on? Do the gauges react? If they don't, I am concerned your mpem is smoked entirely.

If they do react, the mpem isn't recognizing the less key, and could be a faulty less post, contributing to your problems.

Push the start key 5 times, then put the key on the DESS post and press start. If long beep, it does not "see" the key at all.

I'm thinking it's the deal with the internal diode frying.... I have a line another computer with key for $300 that is oem. What else do I need to check.

Yeah... concerned now that the mpem is smoked. Take all of the fuses out and test each with multimeter for continuity to make sure they are working. Then trace leads back from all grounds to battery as well as the positive leads. Also check the grounds for the coils un the front black box. (test continuity from ground point back to negative post on battery, as well as ohms resistance. High ohms == bad connection, leading to issues)

While you are at it, I would also pull the fat plugs from the mpem and inspect. Could be corroded terminals in there. Clean up as necessary and use non conductive grease lightly on pins to prevent future corrosion.
