So i recently took my jet pump apart and replaced the wear ring. My old wear ring took some convincing to get out, now my new one slide in and out by hand any info?

This is one end of the jet skis I have not ventured into... YET. :) I have had some difficult/bad experiences taking these skis apart. The Bolts don't always come out as designed :) Do I need any special tools? I ordered an impeller wrench.

No special tools. Impeller wrench would help but I didn’t use one. I used a chisel and cut out the old ring. Just be careful not to scar the inside of the impeller housing. When you order the ring go ahead and replace the neoprene gasket (it’s between the hull and pump). Mine was completely gone and for only $10 it’s well worth replacing. There’s 2 rubber “O” rings. I replaced those too. As far as the baring come, I just used 90w gear oil. It’s not hard to do. Just time consuming. Good luck

Thank

Thanks for the input. I like to replace gaskets and o-rings also. Thanks for the heads up because not having the gasket would have shut me down for a few days waiting on materials. Where did you order your parts ? I see you got the wear ring from Amazon.

Neoprene gasket from Amazon. O rings from Lowe’s. Little truck with the o rings.....they like to fall off when putting the housing back on. I puta dab of ky jelly to help them stuck. It’s water soluble so it won’t hurt anything

Actually the factory uses Loctite 518 sealant on the o-rings and reduction nozzle.

So am I ok with the neoprene gasket? Been running it that way and haven’t had a prob. When I bought mine I honestly though some job blow redneck repaired it and sealed it back with silicone! Lol

Yes, I was looking and did not see any gasket. I ordered 3 of the o-rings/rubber grommets for the pump housing and have the pump oil kit. I will be waiting on parts for a couple of days but am installing the engine.

I purchased a used alignment kit last week and after putting the motor in place the show began. :) I like using Dial Indicators because I know just where I am and I am short and can't see the shafts that well. It goes much better for me when I can look at the numbers. First thing I did was put an indicator of the face of the PTO flywheel to get the shafts parallel. If you are curious as to why the mag base is mounted on the fly wheel and reading the shaft, I wanted to see how much the shaft lifted when it entered the spline and I also got an idea on how much bar sag I was dealing with. I guess I am now ready to assemble the engine components.

It can be a guessing game when you first start the alignment. I just did one on Saturday and it was a little frustrating until you get close.

What do you guys use to seal the exhaust flange? I have the copper gasket but when I took the exhaust apart there was also gasket material between the flanges. I'd just as soon use the copper gasket as it was intended to seal and then putting some Permatex between the copper gasket surfaces. What is the recommendation for material to use as sealer??

The proper way is in the manual, Copper Permatex RTV on both sides of the copper ring. Make sure the flanges are tight together before you get all the mounts more than finger tight.

Thanks.... I will get the right stuff !!
