hey guys, should the vts operate with battery connected? does jet ski need to be on and in the water? i turn my 1994 xp on push the vts buttons on the left handle and i dont hear/see any motion. do i need to hook up garden hose to it?

On a dess unit like a 96xp you can push the start button and all the lights will turn on, and for about 10-15 seconds you will be able to operate the vts unit up and down. This is without the dess key hooked up to the post and the ski isn't running. On your 94xp you have a totally diff vts unit and you don't have a dess key to start your craft, you can just put your finger over the button and it will fire. So im not sure how yours would work.

thanks for the replies. ill take a closer look. what could be the likely fault? are there fuses to the vts? any and all help is greatly appreciated. thank you

Yes there is a 7.5 amp fuse for VTS. if it continues to blow fuse you may have water in the VTS module. Remove cover and check.

I think the 94xp uses a cable system for the operation of the vts. I don't think there is a worm motor in the rear like the 720 and 800 models.

more thanks for the info guys, its good to have a site like this for those of us who need the help. i'll get some time off later today to check out the doo. i believe seadoobutch is right in my xp having a cable operated trim in the rear. would this mean that any electronic/motor portion of the trim system is in the front? and i'm still unclear if the trim system should operate regardless if doo is in the water or not.

by the way, i'm planning on taking the xp out to the lake tomorrow for the first time. i'll keep you guys updated on it. thanks again
