Under the bow storage deck material?

I always wondered whats under the deck mat in the bow on my 1999 speedster SK. Clearly there's a hollow area as the mat always lends itself to a little flex in the center. Lately this area fills with water between the mat and floor after cleaning and can somewhat be squeezed to the outside edges. Not one to ignore trapped water I'm tempted to pull the deck mat up. Do we have any links or images of the bow storage area under the rubber material so I might get a better understanding of the dead space? Pulling it will destroy the material and cause for unnecessary replacement ... much appreciated.
