OK, I've learned the hard way.

I've got a '96 SPX that was orphaned because of a hole in the hull. I patched it up, got it running great. Few little things but was really running awesome. Had not seen water in 4 or 5 years. It was running great even on the old gray fuel lines until last weekend. I had not converted it to premix yet because it was running so sweet. Until last Sunday.

When it quit, it really just seemed like it was running out of gas. I pulled it out and changed the fuel lines first and found somebody to rebuild the carbs for me because I just really didn't think I could do it right. Fortunatly, he checked the compression first. 20# on the front and 150# on the rear. Ouch!

So. If you haven't switched to premix yet....:(:(:(

So the next question. Short block? Cylinder kit? Or just a cylinder and piston? Seriously, I have more dollars in the trailer lights than any one other thing on this ski and you all know the economy is tight right now for all of us. And yes, the carbs will be built and the ski converted to premix before she starts again.

I would really appreciate thoughts and ideas. You guys are awesome.

Peace,
<><

OIl pump mite not be to blame....Shoulda cleaned the carbs and done the lines b4 ridin it... probably just was starving for gas, which screwed up ur engine

True. But I still should have gone through the carbs first. It was just running so darn good.

So what about the rebuild? Suggestions on that?

Thanks

I would pull it apart and look at it. If it was just a lean out on one side you may be able to get by with just a piston and rings if the cylinder isn't dicked. And if the other side is truely around 150#. Of course if that's the case you will have to find the reason for the lean out.

So get your hands dirty and show us what the parts look like. Well tell you what's happening.

Stein.
